2014 Singapore Art Fair

Singapore is the place where Asian and Western arts and cultures meet. In 2014, leading artists from around the world attended the first Singapore Art Fair, which played a significant role in promoting Asian arts and cultures. Stephen Peng was invited to the event in collaboration with Gallery Nawei PTE LTD. His colorful oil paintings and their rich emotions enable the viewer to feel viscerally the rich and splendid passion in Peng’s life journey.

“Zhangjiajie,” painted by Peng in 2012, was the biggest art piece in this exhibition. The magnificent painting is 4 meters wide and 1.6 meters tall. The inspiration for this painting came from Avatar, a movie he watched during his flight to America. The abundant colors and layers in the movie, normally found in Chinese landscapes as well, reminded him of the spectacular mountains he saw in Zhangjiajie years ago. The scenes lingered in his mind.

Peng comes from the once humble rural society of Taiwan, and spent the prime of his life in Europe and America. As a result, he possesses characteristics from the Asian and Western societies. His unique style has made him realize the art of combining East and West, and the diverse and expansive views he once saw have continued to extend in his art after many years.
